Vehicle Coverage

The Hartford's explanation of the following is intended to provide a general overview of coverages. Only the insurance policy can give actual terms, coverages, amounts, conditions and exclusions.

Insurance for Your Business Vehicles

The Hartford, can provide valuable protection for all your commercially-owned vehicles -- as well as for "hired" vehicles you rent, loan or lease for business use.

Liability Coverage for Accidents Involving Your Company-Owned Cars

As part of its basic Commercial Auto policy, The Hartford provides liability coverage. This coverage protects you in case someone else claims you (or someone driving your covered car) are legally liable for either bodily injury or property damage.

Unlike some other insurers, The Hartford extends your Commercial Auto liability protection to employees who may be sued by other employees because of an accident. Say one of your employees is injured while another employee is driving -- and then sues the driver. In a case like this, The Hartford will pay for any excess losses not covered by other insurance policies.

Medical Payments for You or Your Passengers

If you are in an accident or struck by another vehicle, The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy will pay medical expenses for you (if you are not covered by Workers' Compensation) as well as any passengers in your vehicle.

Lost Wages for Accident Victims

In addition to paying for medical expenses, The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy will also reimburse you and any injured passengers for any wages lost because of a covered accident.

Liability Coverage for Business Use of Your Employees' Cars

If your employees ever use their own cars for company business, you can rest easier knowing your Hartford Commercial Auto policy provides liability protection for business use of employees' cars. That means that if your employees are ever involved in an accident while using their own vehicles for company business, you would be protected if someone sued you for the resulting damage or injury.

Liability Coverage for Cars You Rent, Loan or Lease

The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy would protect you in case you are ever sued because of an accident involving a vehicle your company has rented, loaned or leased.

Physical Damage Coverage for Cars You Rent, Loan or Lease

If you purchase The Hartford's liability coverage for cars you rent, loan or lease as well as physical damage coverage for any of your owned vehicles, The Hartford will automatically provide this additional coverage. It will pay for physical damages to any vehicle your company rents, loans or leases. In addition, if you are held legally liable to the owner of the hired auto for his or her loss of use of the auto, The Hartford's policy will also compensate the owner for this loss of use -- for up to $500 per accident.

Lease Gap Coverage for Cars You Lease (not available in New York)

Unlike some insurance companies, The Hartford includes this valuable provision if you elect Physical Damage coverage for cars you rent, loan or lease. If an auto you lease is ever totaled in an accident, this provision will pay the outstanding balance of the lease -- if it exceeds the car's actual cash value.

Physical Damage (Collision)

If your Hartford Commercial Auto policy includes coverage for collisions, you will be protected in case your vehicle is physically damaged in an accident involving another vehicle or a stationary object -- such as a building, telephone pole, etc.

Physical Damage (Comprehensive)

If you elect The Hartford's Comprehensive coverage on your Commercial Auto policy, it will pay for physical damage to your insured autos caused by a variety of risks -- including fire, lightning, theft, vandalism, hail and flood.

In addition to the "standard" coverages, The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy also automatically includes these valuable extras -- which are not provided by some other standard insurance plans.

Transportation Expenses. Unlike some other insurance policies, The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy will pay for transportation expenses you have to incur if your private passenger car is stolen -- such as the cost of renting a vehicle.

Glass Repair. Unlike some other insurers, The Hartford's Commercial Auto policy will also waive the deductible if you have damaged glass repaired instead of replaced.

Sound Receiving and Reproducing Equipment. What also distinguishes The Hartford's Commercial Auto coverage is that it automatically covers electronic equipment designed solely for the reproduction of sound (radio, tape deck, CD player, etc.) as well as any other sound receiving or reproducing equipment that is permanently installed -- such as a permanently installed cellular phone.

Broadened Coverage for Extra Expense. If you elect Comprehensive coverage on your Commercial Auto policy, the Hartford will pay any extra expenses involved in returning an insured automobile that has been stolen and recovered.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

The Hartford's Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you in case you are injured in an accident caused by the negligent operation of an uninsured auto or by a hit-and-run motorist. It also protects you in case you are injured by someone who has less liability coverage than you.
